Special activities for the Old Fashioned Christmas:  Friday, Dec. 4, 2009 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

All of our buildings will be open for visitors this enchanted evening.  Each building has something to do!  In the locations listed below, we will have special activities available this night only.  Be sure to visit while the lights shine.
Admission: Adults = $8; Children = $5; Children 4 and under = free.

Carriage House

See the bungalow-style carriage house lit up for Christmas! "Contra" (square) dancing activity.

Happy Train Ride on Cane Break Drive

Children are enchanted by this tiny train that takes them for a ride around the complex.  Adults are welcome to squeeze themselves in this mini-train.

Watkins Reception House

Performances by the the Suzuki Violinists and the Showstoppers Children's Choir.
Warm up in this 1895 Victorian home and enjoy the entertainment with coffee, punch, and cookies by a blazing fire and a live cedar Christmas tree.

Millard-Lee House

Nineteenth-century living comes alive with a fascinating collection of antiques and kitchen gadgets. Give the antique player piano a try! Marvel at the tatting skills displayed upstairs in the wicker room. "Make and Take" activities for children, corn cob dolls, darts, andrag balls are upstairs in the children's room.

Chapel

LIVE THEATRE! Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol performed by Lamplite Theatre players. 3 performances.

Tool Shed (& Livery Stable for the night)

Learn about the skills of subsistence farming with this wonderful collection of antique tools including saddles, harnesses, buggy, and hand-forged Model-T tools.  Pet the mule or ride it!

Methodist Parsonage

Piano player, Tony Sartain.
Warm up with hot wassail and baked goods while enjoying Christmas music played on an antique Broadwood piano.

Watkins Log House

Local professional storyteller Dove Watson will be telling tales for children in this cozy 1830s log house. Enjoy cocoa and baked goods, and see spinning and quilt making upstairs.

Country Store & Cane Break Drive

Old timey East Texas knee-slappin' music 'round the stove and the aroma of good food will greet you as you enter the store. Step back in time and order up some old fashioned candy, soft drinks, popcorn, or sausage on a stick and other good food.

Grounds

Cake Walks / Brass Quintet.  (In the event of bad weather, the cake walks will be held in the Carriage House.)
