1910s Carriage House
This structure was a carriage house/garage located behind the old Hayter home, formerly the Hayter House Restaurant, at the corner of North Street and East Starr just south of the university. For some time, three old fire trucks from the 1920s were displayed in this building. When Mrs. Thomas died, they were transferred to a fire museum downtown. The building now houses a carriage and a “freight” buckboard that hauled watermelons between Nacogdoches and the Alazan Community.
